The project financed by the
Presidency of the Council
of the Ministers
The project "Food Security Initiative for Vulnerable Children and Families in Tamil Nadu" , thanks to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Otto per Mille funds of the IRPEF with the co-financing of Soft Strategy and Nethex , represented a concrete action to support the most disadvantaged communities in the districts of Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Dindigul, Villupuram and Trichy.
Thanks to the collaboration between Interlife ETS and local partners, the project, started in January 2023 and completed in July 2024, involved 25 villages, significantly improving the living conditions of thousands of people.
AN INTEGRATED APPROACH
Results beyond expectations
Not only were the objectives achieved, but they were largely exceeded thanks to targeted interventions and the optimization of resources.
HEALTH AND NUTRITION
A tripled result

The project aimed to provide basic health services and raise awareness about health and nutrition. The results achieved were extraordinary:
1,200 medical visits carried out thanks to the activation of two health centers in the villages of Panchampatti and Vembarpatti.
100 pregnant women and 300 malnourished children received nutritional and health support , ensuring regular monitoring and a significant reduction in mortality risks.
The awareness campaign reached 25,000 people , doubling the initial target of 12,500.
FOOD SAFETY
Double the number of families reached

Thanks to the planning and efficiency of the interventions:
1,062 food kits were distributed , more than double the initial target of 500 kits, containing cereals, legumes, oil and spices to support families in difficulty.
The distribution involved families belonging to the Untouchable caste, the most marginalized and vulnerable, the elderly, women excluded from the labor market and the chronically ill, contributing to significantly reducing food insecurity.
INTERLIFE TOOLKIT
A model of enhanced economic resilience

Thanks to budget optimization and local collaboration:
208 Interlife Toolkits have been implemented , achieving equal funding for the 100 initially planned.
The Toolkits supported the creation of micro-enterprises in the agricultural, pastoral and poultry sectors, benefiting over 1,000 people , exceeding the number of planned beneficiaries.
The model generated a strong multiplier effect , ensuring the sharing of the Toolkits with a second generation of vulnerable families.
INSTRUCTION
Extended monitoring and enhanced inclusion

680 children screened to prevent school dropout , exceeding the target of 500 children.
School supplies distributed to 558 students , strengthening access to education and exceeding the target of 500 children.
Support provided to several primary schools, with improved school canteens to encourage attendance and combat dropout, especially in Dalit and rural communities.

The results in detail

Thanks to the contribution of Fondazione Prosolidar, it has been possible to implement the project "Post-emergency and release for the community of untouchables hit by Cyclone Gaja – Tamil Nadu, India " and this has enabled us to help more than 3,200 people.
The project has been carried out in the poorest rural areas of the Southern State of Tamil Nadu, in India, where the disadvantaged marginalised communities of untouchables live, in conditions of chronic malnutrition and exploitation of child labour, worsened by natural events and presently by the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Project started in February 2020 with the specific objective of assisting the population hit by the fury of Cyclone Gaja and subsequently by the serious economic and occupational effects of COVID-19 and of the lockdown, with the purpose of guaranteeing food and socio-economic security for disadvantaged communities and for the most vulnerable families who live in the poorest areas of the Districts of Pudukkottai and Thanjavur, in Tamil Nadu.
To this purpose the project has included integrated actions of post-emergency and reconstruction of the rural economic fabric, food and health security and the launch of income-generating activities based on the innovative Interlife Toolkit model.

Together, we can turn challenges into opportunities and ensure a future of food security, education and economic resilience for the most vulnerable communities.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers for the decisive support to this initiative. Without the contribution of the Otto per Mille funds of the IRPEF and the co-financing of Soft Strategy and Nethex it would not have been possible to realize such an ambitious project and guarantee a better future to the communities of Tamil Nadu.
This intervention represents a virtuous example of how collaboration between public institutions, non-profit organizations, companies and local communities can generate concrete and lasting changes.
